Faithful God, so many people wish for a powerful ruler:
one who will privilege their preferences, and outlaw all others;
one who will heap more burdens upon those who already have many;
one who will bring peace through violence and intimidation.
Remind us all of your kingdom, which is not of this world:
one that includes, affirms, and transforms;
one that lifts up rather than pushes further down;
one that achieves peace through reconciliation and justice.
Grant us continuing strength and courage to participate in the further in-breaking of this kingdom, that all may finally find rest.
