As regular readers know, I’ve been choosing a single word by which to live for the whole year. This year’s word is Center:
I’m going to explore what is at my center nowadays. I’ll seek practices and experiences that will help me name it and focus (or re-focus) on it accordingly. And then I want to practice letting go of what’s not (or shouldn’t be) at my center as needed.
So far, Center has been going well. I’ve been doing a number of things that have helped me explore this theme, including:
- Making a vision board depicting what matters most to me
- Reading a ministry-related book every month and reflecting on how it relates to my own sense of call;
- Continuing to practice Wing Chun, which emphasizes protecting the center of the body;
- Observing a daily meditation practice;
- Paying attention to what energizes and excites me, not just about my vocation but about life in general.
Any insights that I’ve had up to this point have not come in the form of clear revelations. Rather, they’ve been hints, vibes, feelings, and vagaries. To try to write about them would misrepresent them. So I’m holding off for now.
But Center has been very fruitful so far. I look forward to how it develops the rest of the year.
