Christmas Week: Pajamas

Previously: Horizon, Yell, Vibe

After I became a pastor, it didn’t take long before I experienced my first instance of Christmas falling on a Sunday. I recall expecting attendance to be light, which it was, but I didn’t do much differently in the service itself. In many ways, it was a typical liturgy, with a few carols for the hymns. I regretted what I later saw as a missed opportunity, and decided I’d have more fun with it the next time.

I had two more chances after that one, and both times went much better. We sang a lot of carols, I encouraged people to wear their pajamas, we enjoyed hot chocolate and sweet treats. Unlike that first time, these other instances actually felt like Christmas morning.

I haven’t checked, but this might be the first time I’ve ever published a blog post on Christmas Day. And I’m doing it in my pajamas, while enjoying a sweet treat.

It feels like Christmas morning as I post it, and I hope it feels like Christmas morning while you read it.

Hopefully you’re also in your pajamas, with people you love and who love you back, eating things you enjoy.

And I hope that feeling continues for you throughout the day, and through the entire season to come.
