A Prayer in the Garden

based on John 20:1-18

Faithful God, we confess we don’t know what’s happened.

We’ve heard the news from women and angels alike, but there’s so much we still don’t understand.

We’re wondering how it’s possible, and about what it means.

Our sense of the world has been turned upside down, and it may be a while before we know how or are able to celebrate.

And so, we ask that you will sit with us here in the garden as we figure it out.

And even if it will take us a while, our prayer is that the hope and peace and courage you seek to instill within us through this morning will seep into our hearts.

O God, may the complexity and strangeness of resurrection lead to joy, and by that joy may we be healed and empowered by your life-giving Spirit. Amen.
