A Prayer by the Tomb

based on 1 Corinthians 1:18-31

Faithful God, we find it foolish to hope and to dream.

We are waiting and longing for better times to bloom, but we’ve yet to see shoots form out of barren ground.

Instead, all we see is this symbol of pain high on a hill, with what we thought to be our best sign of new life hanging, weak and helpless.

Are you able to overcome the power of violence and fear?

Will there be a day when relief will come to our anguish, assurance to our uncertainty, healing to our suffering?

As ridiculous as it seems to others, we will sit by the tomb, and we will wait and watch.

Amen.
