A Prayer on the Riverbank

based on Genesis 32:22-31

Faithful God, it is dark and we are struggling.

The causes of our anguish are numerous. They include concerns for our world and for ourselves.

We’re also wrestling with you: your presence and place in all else that tosses us about all night without rest or respite.

Yet we cling to you because we can’t do otherwise. We refuse to let go, because we still know you as a source of transformation, both of people and predicaments.

O God, bless us so we may find a new identity in you. Amen.
