My favorite time of year is almost here again. My summer was the best one I can remember in a while, but I’m looking forward to all the special joy that fall brings for me.
I’m also looking forward to all the books that I’m going to read. My summer list was pretty good, and now it’s time to make a new one.
So here’s what I’m planning to read for these final months of the year.
- The Kaiju Preservation Society by John Scalzi
- This Is How You Lose the Time War by Amal El-Mohtar
- The Notebook: A History of Thinking on Paper by Roland Allen
- Mountaintop: The Inside Story of Michigan’s 1997 Title Climb by Mark Snyder
- American Zombie Gothic: The Rise and Fall (and Rise) of the Walking Dead in Popular Culture by Kyle William Bishop
- My Murder by Katie Williams
- In Defense of Ska by Aaron Carnes
- Expecting Emmanuel: Eight Women Who Prepared the Way by Joanna Harader
A few novels, some non-fiction, and something for when Advent arrives.
What are you planning to read before 2024 ends?
Here are some suggestions (especially my new novel).

This is How You Lose the Time War was a great but difficult read. It’s definitely something you will need to put all your focus into because the epistolic narrative that is more prose than exposition. It’s clever, though!
