Summer Reading 2024

source

It’s almost that time of year when school is out, the temperatures are at their hottest, and many embark on vacations and hopefully enjoy lighter schedules. It also means I need a new reading list.

My previous reading list was a little more hit and miss than I expected, but I’m feeling positive about the one I’ve made for the summer. It includes:

  • What Were the Negro Leagues? by Varian Johnson
  • Hell Is a World Without You by Jason Kirk
  • Yellowface by R.F. Kuang
  • 60 Songs That Explain the ’90s by Rob Harvilla
  • Lo Fi by Liz Riggs
  • The Midnight Library by Matt Haig
  • Wounded Pastors: Navigating Burnout, Finding Healing, and Discerning the Future of Your Ministry by Carol Howard
  • Collective Chaos: A Roller Derby Team Memoir by Samantha Tucker
  • No One Left to Come Looking for You by Sam Lipsyte

A bunch of novels (which I prefer in the summer) and a few others.

What are you planning to read this summer?

Here are a few suggestions.

Published by Jeff Nelson

Rev. Jeff Nelson serves as Minister for Ministerial Calls and Transitions as part of the MESA Team at the UCC national setting. Prior to that, he served as a local church pastor for 15 years in several settings in northeast Ohio. He is also a certified spiritual director in the tradition of Ignatius of Loyola. He has written six books on prayer, spirituality, and popular culture.

  1. Hey, Jeff. I smiled when I read that you play Magic. So does my sensei. 🙂 Also, I’m from NE Ohio.

Gotta love summer reading! I’m reading to my older kids, selectively–not everything is child appropriate–a fantasy series by David Eddings called The Belgariad. Everyone is thoroughly enjoying it, hubby included.
