Frequently Asked Questions about Dunamis

Now that my second novel, Dunamis, is officially out in the world, it’s time to answer what might be some of the most common questions that people may have about it.

Where can I find this book? You can find it at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Apple Books, and Smashwords, among other places.

How do you pronounce the title? DOO-na-miss. Long U sound, emphasis on the first syllable.

What’s your elevator pitch-length description of the story? A year after the events of Mirrobius, the Defenders are assigned to a new case where some will remain on Earth, but Zane and his friends will need to travel to the planet Gele, where Lana is from. Zane is also struggling with PTSD from what happened in the last book, so he will need to find ways to overcome that while working this new investigation.

And how do you pronounce that planet’s name? GEH-lay. Emphasis on first syllable, second e is a long A sound. I’ve been worried about this since publishing the first book. Tell your friends.

Will I need to read Mirrobius before I read this? Definitely. There are a lot of callbacks to what happened in that story. I do provide some reminders just in case it’s been a minute since readers had picked up the previous book, but everything will make way more sense and be more enjoyable if you read the other novel first.

Who’s the target audience for this? Same as the first: fans of sci-fi and fantasy stories, age 13 and up.

Even though this is a novel, given your background and career, are there spiritual elements in this book? The spiritual elements are much more overt in this story than in the last. Most of that is due to the introduction of a clergy character on whom the characters rely pretty heavily. Zane’s internal struggles also bring some questions regarding his life, purpose, and identity.

Who designed the cover, and did you use AI? Once again, I did. And once again, absolutely not.

Are you planning to write any more novels? I have ideas for 4-5 more novel or novella-length stories for these same characters, so yes.

Where can I keep up with news about your writing besides this blog? I have a monthly author newsletter, and I’m on Facebook, Instagram, and Bluesky.

Any plans for a launch party/reading? I’ll talk about it on the podcast for sure. Besides that, probably not.

Don’t you have other books besides this one? Of course I do. Find them all here.
