It’s been a few months since I’ve been able to report any progress with my latest book, The Unintentional Interim. The last time I did so was in January, when I’d just finished the developmental edits (i.e., revisions to the overall presentation of the content). I knew that the next phase would be the copyedits, which is the line-by-line review to catch grammatical and spelling mistakes.
I can finally share that this stage is complete, and that it was relatively painless on my end. With previous books, not only were the developmental and copyediting phases a single step, but I was the one responsible for making those changes myself.
That was still the case for the developmental edits, but copyedits were much simpler: I was sent a marked up version of the manuscript, but it was mainly for me to clarify a few things that the copyeditor wasn’t sure about. I replied to the questions in the manuscript and sent it back. They thanked me, said they’d go ahead and approve all the other line edit changes, and send it along for typesetting.
For me, this stage consisted of a couple emails over the course of maybe 2 hours. And now I’m done. Nice.
As mentioned, the next step is typesetting. My next public update will be the cover reveal, which is always one of my favorite parts of the process. I look forward to when we reach that point. More to come soon.
